65 inches is the size most Australians buy for a main lounge-room TV: big enough to feel like an upgrade, small enough for most walls and cabinets. It's also the most competitive size, so the price gap between stores is often large.

These are the 65-inch TVs sold by the most Australian stores, with the cheapest store for each right now.

Best 65-inch OLED

OLED gives perfect blacks and the best picture in a dim room. At 65 inches it's a real step up in price, but it's the size where OLED looks most impressive.

Best 65-inch Mini LED

Mini LED is the pick for bright rooms and for anyone who wants an OLED-like experience for less. The better models have hundreds of dimming zones.

Is 65 inches the right size?

For 4K, a comfortable viewing distance is roughly 1 to 1.5 times the screen's diagonal. A 65-inch TV is 165cm across the diagonal, so it suits a couch about 1.7 to 2.5 metres away. Further back than that, look at a 75 or 85-inch model.

The TV itself is about 145cm wide. Check your cabinet or wall space, and whether the feet sit at the edges (which needs a wide cabinet) or in the centre.

Before you buy

  • Check the cheapest store for TVs today.
  • Match the model year: the same series sells as last year's and this year's model side by side.
  • Gamers: look for HDMI 2.1 and 120Hz. Most mid-range and premium 65-inch TVs have it.

Or start from the best TVs at every size.

How we work: every price in this guide is today's lowest in-stock price across the Australian stores we check, refreshed every morning, and the tables recalculate with it. Nobody pays to be included or to rank higher. Specs come from the stores' and makers' own listings. How Compare Empire works
