Gaming monitors have become remarkably cheap in Australia. A fast 240Hz 1080p screen costs less than a game used to, and OLED, which was a luxury two years ago, is now within reach of a mid-range budget. The hard part is choosing the right resolution and refresh rate for your graphics card.

Match the monitor to your PC

Your graphics card Best resolution Refresh rate
Entry level (RTX 5050, RTX 5060, RX 9060 XT) 1080p 144–240Hz
Mid-range (RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5070, RX 9070) 1440p 144–240Hz
High end (RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, RX 9070 XT) 1440p high refresh or 4K 165–240Hz+
PS5 or Xbox Series X 4K or 1440p 120Hz with HDMI 2.1

A higher refresh rate only helps if your PC can produce that many frames. For most people, 27-inch 1440p at 165Hz or more is the sweet spot.

The best OLED gaming monitors

OLED (and QD-OLED) monitors have near-instant pixel response, perfect blacks and stunning HDR. The caveats: they're dimmer on a bright white desktop, and static elements like taskbars can, over time, risk burn-in, which makers now address with pixel-refresh features and longer warranties. Check the warranty terms for burn-in.

Panel types in one line each

  • IPS: the best all-rounder: good colour and viewing angles.
  • VA: deeper blacks, often curved, sometimes smeary in fast dark scenes.
  • TN: fast and cheap, poor colours. Mostly gone now.
  • OLED / QD-OLED: the best picture and motion; more expensive.

Where to buy

Monitors are sold by both the PC stores and the big chains, and the cheapest store changes daily. In our data the computer stores (MSY / Umart, PLE, digiDirect) usually lead; see the live store comparison. Every monitor is on the monitors page.

How we work: every price in this guide is today's lowest in-stock price across the Australian stores we check, refreshed every morning, and the tables recalculate with it. Nobody pays to be included or to rank higher. Specs come from the stores' and makers' own listings. How Compare Empire works
