Cordless stick vacuums have replaced the barrel vacuum in most Australian homes. Dyson and Shark lead, but older Dyson models and Shark's mid-range often cost half the newest flagship and clean almost as well. Prices below update every morning from The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi, Betta, Costco and the brands' own stores.

What actually matters

  • Real run time. Claims are on the lowest setting. On carpet boost most sticks last 10–20 minutes; a swappable battery helps in big homes.
  • The bundle. One model is often sold with different tools, a second battery or a dock. Compare like with like.
  • Hair wrap. Anti-tangle brush rolls (Shark's and Dyson's newer heads) matter if you have pets or long hair.
  • Bin size and emptying. Small bins fill fast; a self-empty base fixes that for a price.
  • Battery replacement cost. Check it before you buy; it decides how long the vacuum stays worth using.
